Well it depends... if these are Romero zombies, they slowly regain human intelligence. So my zombie plan is to be an early adopter, find a way to get infected without having a big chunk bit out of me, and try to remember to avoid boomsticks and blades until I'm smart enough to reclaim my home and look for work :) |

This year was the first year that I took real steps to prepare for the hurricane season. I bought a big cooler to put some supplies and food in, and large water containers. Luckily, it was a slow season, and none came near. In November, with the season over, it was time to remove the non-perishable food and figure out what to do with it. This year, I chose to shelf it because we have some extra people in our house, and the food came in handy. Future years, however, I anticipate it will be a sudden and really unnecessary surplus. I noticed that the hurricane season ends right around the time of the biggest food drives... so, why not combine the two events? I would like to start a tradition of donating my hurricane food supplies each year in November. I urge anyone reading to think about this for next year. |

| Jun. 28th, 2005 @ 09:29 pm My thoughts on the flag-protection amendment. | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Current Mood:
One's patriotism is shown by their allegiance to American values, notAmerican symbols. Hundreds of people could burn thousands of flags and America would still stand for freedom. Our flag doesn't need the protection of a bunch of vote-grubbing politicians--it is an immortal image that goes beyond mere cloth. It's just a game of "I love the flag more than you" and unfortunately, it works. Do you really in your heart think that a senator uncomfortable with making exceptions to the First Amendment actually has some kind of hostility towards the US Flag? Yet this is exactly the impression that will be thrown at any senator who dares oppose this waste of time. How many flags are burned in America each year? Is this a problem that needs the full attention of both houses of Congress and each state legislature? Is there a flag-burning crisis? To me this represents exactly what most people hate about politicians--that they promote meaningless gestures instead of actually solving problems that make a difference. |

|---|---|---|---|
Current Mood:
Posed by P.S.A. at the message board on http://www.randi.orgCurrent Music: Alan Parsons Project - "Pipeline" ...This is one of the core reasons why I don't accept the concept of Heaven... Or at least, the idylic interpretation of Heaven as a place of endless pleasure is certainly hopelessly simplistic. In order for Heaven to logically possible, those who exist within it must have their natures changed from what they were on Earth. Even the greatest Saint has minor sins, and unfulfilled wishes and regrets... but in Heaven these things must be sloughed off. The Catholic Church is actually being rather sensible when it says there is no sex in Heaven; it's natural to want, and what you can't have is often what you want the most. But you cannot be rewarded these things in Heaven... not and have Heaven be a completly Just and Honest place too. The nature of Heaven is thus completely irrelevant to the rules we must live by here on Earth; because the person we were here on Earth is inevitably going to have to be changed to fit into Heaven. This will not be a mere body-shape change, like catterpillar to butterfly, but our thoughts, our consciousness must change too... for it's their that some of our sinfulness lies. However, if we are all to have out natures changed when we get to Heaven, in what sense have "We" actually made it to Heaven? And does this mean that those in Hell are equally changed, so there cannot be any goodness in Hell just like there can be no sadness or unrequited desire in Heaven (for even the most evil men have some small goodness within them)? Or are we making an argument that you cease to exist if you follow God, but remain as you are, even if eternally tormented, if you abandon him? And if so, why the double standard? In theory, heaven and hell could actually be the same place; Everyone who has ever died is staring at a single shoe, but those who are in Heaven are rewarded by being given a sense of ecstasy when doing so, and those given Hell are turned into people who feel disgusted by a shoe. And why not, if we are going to say our nature must be changed? It doesn't have to make any sense at all... all that matters is that God can make it make sense. Do I find the thought of eternal life scary? Not really; because my nature will be what ever it will be in the afterlife... Assuming it exists, which I'm not convinced the logic allows you to conclude to be the case. But I dont find the thought that it might exist all that appealing anyway. I don't see much pleasure in thinking I might end up doing nothing more varied than stare at a shoe for an eternity, and loving every second of it. And if you think that sounds silly, consider this... the Christian interpretation of Heaven is that we will all become angels, and spend our eternity worshipping God. Hmmmm... |

Current Music: Rockapella - "King of Spain" In a good mood today, call volume is light, the day slips away rapidly enough to approach my weekend. And they are serving green beer in the cafeteria downstairs... that's right, beer at work. I didn't know that would ever be something offered in the workplace, go figure. Of course, just one cupful, but there are advantages to being a lightweight, and so after one cup and some snacks I am slightly buzzed. So a very happy St. Patty's day to everyone out there... have fun and drink responsibly. |

Current Music: Elton John -- "Sad Songs" I finished my list of memory-themed songs... there was an interest expressed in seeing the list, so here it is. Some of them are picked because they fit my thoughts perfectly from that time. Some of them have nothing to do with what was going on in my life, and were just popular and caught my attention that year. Some of them are cheesy-- too bad, if it brings me back, it's on the list. So, set the Wayback machine for 1986... ( The songs ) A couple more notes: |

| Jul. 6th, 2004 @ 07:16 pm Weekend | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Oh yeah, 4th of July Weekend and stuff. Happy Birthday, America. (faint cheering) Friday I was supposed to go home early, but wound up stuck on the longest call ever, at work. By the time I finished, it was almost time to leave anyway. Saturday, went bowling with Sunday, charley horse as a reward for lots of bowling. My lovely, amazing, Fireworks in Tarpon Springs... that went well. Rain clouds loomed, but respectfully did not drench out the ceremonies. We decided we were not going to stress traffic, so we just waited in the back of my pickup until most of the parking lot cleared out. The ride home still had lots of traffic, but working your way along a road isn't even half as stressful as trying to fight your way out of a dinky parking lot and fighting to merge with a line of traffic. People in parking lots on the 4th of july really hate to let anyone merge in, for some reason. Monday, a bit of concern at work because I wasn't sure if I'd been granted the time off. No announcement was sent, and I missed the chance to speak to the schedule admin personally about it on Friday (because of that long call). Of course, when I called Monday morning, everyone that could say for sure had the day off themselves and were unreachable. I decided to chance it, and it turns out I had already been approved, so that worked out. We went to Adventure Island. After all the fuss about work, and trying to coordinate the trip with some friends of ours, we arrived at noon. By 2:00 we were leaving because of an approaching thunderstorm. In spite of how quickly it went, everyone had a really good time while we were there. Then stopped at sonic burger on the way home. Note: Green Apple Slushies are a must try :)
